Financial Reporting Manager (Montreal)

creates, produces, and distributes popular factual and scripted content for the global market with operations in Montreal, Toronto, New York, London, and Dublin.  Producing approximately 200 hours of internationally appealing programming per year across a wide range of genres, and with a growing catalogue of 4,500 hours, Cineflix is behind some of the most highly rated TV brands. 

The Role

Cineflix Media Inc
. is seeking a Financial Reporting Manager (Manager) who will report to the Corporate Finance Director, CFD, with a strong dotted line to the Group CFO and COO, Cineflix Rights, based in Dublin. This is a full-time, permanent position based out of either our Montreal or Toronto office.   

The Manager will be responsible for preparation of consolidation workings, including both revenue, cost of sales and operating costs.  The successful candidate will also play a key role in the maintenance of the Group’s Budget model by updating it on a quarterly basis and be responsible for other types of reporting and forecasting including borrowing base forecasts and ad hoc analyses related to the Group’s M&A activities.  

The Manager will work closely with the finance teams in Montreal and Dublin, Production Administration, Executive group and Business Affairs department to ensure Cineflix’s reporting, financial and operational goals are met. The role will require some travel.

Duties and Responsibilities

Report to the CFD to ensure that the budget, financial statements, reforecasts and other reports are produced on a timely and accurate basis.  The specific responsibilities include the following:

1) Quarterly Reporting- responsible for the preparation of the following reports:

  • Consolidation worksheet and supporting schedules (including film cost Working, royalties payable report, advances to co-producers).
  • Workings to calculate revenue and cost of sale by title.
  • Consolidated opex schedule.
  • Royalties payable schedule.

In addition to preparing the reports above, the Manager is also responsible for:

  • Ensuring that all intercompany loans reconcile by verifying, allocating, reconciling transactions; researching and resolving all discrepancies.
  • Liaising with receivables, production and post production departments to ensure accurate cut-off and full recognition of all revenue.


2) Budgets and Reforecasts:

  • Use the submissions from the various finance divisions (Rights, Production) to prepare the budget and reforecasts on a quarterly basis. 
  • Work with the [Lucy title] to produce the corporate budget submission.
  • Develop and maintain the element of the model that tracks financing costs. 
  • Prepare all reports related to the budget and reforecasts including Income Statement, Balance Sheet, Borrowing base forecast and Slate information.
  • Create a monthly revenue reforecast.  


3) Prepare Analyses for CFO and Rights COO, including:

  • Workings related to potential M&A targets
  • 3 and 5 year business forecast. 


4) Financial Statements and Audit:

  • Work with the CFD to ensure the audit happens on a timely basis and in line with external reporting deadlines.
  • Assist the CFD in her review of the Financial Statements including drafting notes. 
  • Provide information to the group auditors.
  • Prepare debt continuity schedules. 
  • Prepare revenue schedule for auditors.
  • Prepare US GAAP reconciliation schedule.


5) Corporate Accounting:

  • Oversee the preparation and submission of the Corporate tax returns.
  • Assist CFD to liaise with external government auditors in relation to tax matters. 
  • Prepare transfer pricing documentation on a yearly basis.


6) Other:

  • Sign off on data entry related to Production license agreements so as to ensure accurate reporting (check-listing). 
  • Provide recommendations for the establishment and monitoring of the accounting process that enhance internal accounting control and create efficiencies.


Skills and Qualifications

The position requires an experienced accounting professional capable of managing multiple priorities in a dynamic, growing and fluid organization. You must be highly organized and skilled at creating structures and definition in situations that are uncertain or ambiguous. The successful candidate will adapt quickly to change and will champion the advancement of policies, structure, procedures, and controls that will enhance the finance function at Cineflix.

  • Eight plus years of accounting experience, with a minimum of two at manager level, ideally in a fast-growing SME company. 
  • Experience working in TV / Film Production is a requirement and Big 4 accounting firm training is a significant advantage.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting plus CPA.
  • Experience in operating and getting efficiencies and effectiveness using a mid-tier accounting system.
  • Experience working in an international entity dealing with foreign exchange and consolidation submissions and familiar with working with colleagues in different countries. 
  • Extensive modelling experience with advanced level Excel skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and work proactively and independently.
  • High energy level with a hands-on approach combined with the ability to provide leadership and structure in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Ability to think critically, recognize discrepancies and anomalies through analysis.
